Queer Vote Ontario 2022

In 2022, I was proud to be part of the organizing team behind Queer Vote Ontario, a non‑partisan coalition and civic engagement initiative that worked to put 2SLGBTQ+ issues at the centre of the provincial election agenda. The campaign brought together more than two dozen LGBTQ2S+ and allied organizations to call on all political parties to commit to meaningful policy priorities affecting queer and trans‑identified Ontarians.

Queer Vote Ontario produced the first ever report cards evaluating party responses to a detailed questionnaire on LGBTQ2S+ policy priorities, including a provincial action plan, expanded access to gender‑affirming healthcare, and increased funding for community services. This work drew public attention to where parties stood on issues critical to equality and rights, and featured prominently in national news coverage ahead of the June 2022 election.

AJ’s contributions to the campaign included:

  • Organizing team — collaborating with coalition members to shape strategy, coordinate outreach, and support campaign logistics.
  • Graphic design — developing visual assets that strengthened the campaign’s visual identity and helped clarify complex policy information for broader audiences.
  • Social media — creating and managing content that amplified the campaign’s priorities, engaged community members, and increased visibility across platforms during a key civic moment.

The initiative underscored the importance of political accountability, queer visibility in public discourse, and community‑driven advocacy. By helping distill policy priorities into accessible formats and connecting them with voting audiences, Queer Vote Ontario played a role in encouraging democratic participation and advancing conversations about equity across Ontario’s political landscape.
